OUR  PANDEMIC EXPERIENCE AND PANACEA

Humanity bemoan in awe at the current viral imbroglio and cacophony upon reminiscing and retrospecting over the current situation bedevilling us and perhaps thinking of a panacea that will ultimately kill in its entirety this recalcitrant global monster.

You are the very  popular, yet callous and dangerous Coronavirus ( Covid - 19 ) , your appellation is given by the International Committee on taxonomy of virus as SARS - COV - 2 ) , only Immortal can truly decipher your sudden appearance in our world at this time . When will you stop ravaging human existence wittingly without a modicum of consideration for our concerted appeal, prayers and divine sacrifices at the hallowed Chambers of our divine altars?

Your sudden arrival at the emerging business hub of China , the capital's Hubei province ( WUHAN ) remains unsolved puzzles for us all, as we wondered why we deserve your unsolicited and deadly visits at this time when we need each other the most.

Covid - 19, you have killed us in thousands, you have sent the Innocents to the journeys of no return, we buried our loved ones like a farmer planting seeds with the hope of harvest, our hospital workers have no rest again, all those who provide essential services have murdered their sleeps, there is desolation at our ever busy roads , our religious centres are closed down indefinitely, we have lost harmonious co existence we once enjoyed, our markets are under locks and keys and we die daily not only of your venom but also of the virus of hunger bedevilling us.

Anyone you embrace with your sting will have no option than to experience fever, cough, fatique, shortness of breath, diarhea, sore throat, muscle pains et al. All these are your hallmarks and unsolicited gifts anytime you callously visit.

What  must we do to escape your wanton killings and untold hullabaloo ? How can we be prevented from the compulsory and false solemnization in unholy matrimony with you? It's by washing our hands with soap and alcohol based solvents, personal hygiene, maintenance of social distancing, no indiscriminate touching of nasal openings and buccal mucosa, and above all, stay at home without mingle again with our musketeers and people are the sure bet to avoid your unsafe marriage. For how long shall we keep ostracizing one another ? How many days shall we locked ourselves at the very corners of our domains without any array of hope ? Will hunger and its attendant bothersome issues not kill us all ?

Mar the souls of thousands of our dear friends and colleagues you have killed untimely , find their peaceful rest in God , while those who are still battling with your recalcitrant venom find healing divinely and get well soon.

Covid -19 , why are you so stubborn and callous ? You spread so fast unlike your counterparts fellow that infect gradually. You have no regard for the sex , you are not a respecter of age, you killed the young while the old are the most vulnerable. You killed older people very fast, people with pre-existing medical conditions such as Asthma, Diabetes, heart diseases are your fast and quick preys.

As at today you have infected not less than 2,165, 500 with 550,453 recovered individuals and 145,705 deaths, we are tired of burying the poets who are not done with their poetry, we are not comfortable digging graves for our worthy writers who are at the verge of writing their best, we are yet not satisfied losing our talented souls so soon .

Our medical personnel, health workers, environmental stakeholders, law enforcement agents have lost their sleeps all to no avail, humanity hereby call on God in holy solemnity to intervene and safe the entire humanity from the rage of this monster called Coronavirus.

One day , but very soon,  we shall all be free, our Children will go back to the classrooms, our markets shall be opened, the flame of our beautiful relationship shall be ignited , we shall embrace our fellow  and peace shall returned , a beautiful world will emerge when we shall no longer wear gloves and face/mouth masks.

Prince Steve Oyebode was born over four decades ago to the royal family of Oyebode in Okuku, the headquarters of Odo otin local government, Osun state, Nigeria 🇳🇬. He graduated from one of the  prestigious Universities in Nigeria ( Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife ) with Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. He also bagged master of science in Legal, Criminology and Security Psychology from the Nigeria premier University ( University of Ibadan ). He's a Chartered member of the Nigeria Institute of Management. Also a senior member of the Chartered Institute of public Diplomacy and Management ( CIPDM ).
