"Pandemics"
Pandemics have long dug gutters in the belly of the earthTo lay giant eggs of fear that hatch pandemonium
Leaving bloody stains on the linens of our history
They exit unannounced as they came but humankind stays on
To learn or remain stuck in the grime of his excesses
They emerge nameless like newborns, to be baptized
And loaned names to roam and ravage humanity at worst
Birthed by the whims of Mother Nature or of mankind's folly
Or even out of a tryst of the elements that rule the world
When surreal, we paint them in colours of God's abhorrence
Yet, it is when we feign compassion that should be real
Still only when we return to God with penitent presentations
Yet we dance on the fears of others by blowing lies to the wind
Taking away advantages of the already disadvantaged
Hoarding essentials, spiking hikes to make an extra buck
Let the distance between people be in better judgment
To break the link of infection and not to unlink our spirits
Let's hold down our hands, not behind our backs in selfishness
Reach out beyond your door and over the fence to light a lamp
That would light the path of someone who's lost their way
This Corvid of a menace shall exhaust itself thin and run
We would count losses, mourn the dead but humanity would flourish
Be your siblings' keeper and stand at someone's point of need
To a higher ear, pray for others as you pray for you and yours
Stand grateful to those who in duty's line, take the bullet for you
